Guv Alvarez accused of graft in shady water deal
A graft complaint has been filed against Palawan Governor Jose Alvarez over an anomalous water deal in 2004 when he was director of the Rio Verde Water Consortium (RVWCI).
Complainant Michelle Fox used the report of the Commission on Audit (COA) as basis for her charge against the politiko.
Apart from Alvares, those included as respondents in the complaint were RVWCI officers Fiorella Azura, Bienvenido Santos, Roberto Lozada, and Chona Alvarez; and Cagayan de Oro Water District officers Federico Gapuz, Raymundo Java, Sandy Bass, and Francisco Mendez.
The complainant cited that RVWCI entered into an allegedly anomalous contract with the water district for the installation of filtration system, water lines, and other ancillary undertakings.
She explained that the deal was disadvantageous to the water district and to the residents who had to shoulder higher water rates.
