Dapat lang! Acop wants Taytay police station renamed to Camp Licerio Geronimo
The House Committee on Rules has approved on second reading House Bill (HB) 1341 which is seeking to rename the Hilltop, Philippine National Police (PNP) Command, in Taytay, Rizal to Camp General Licerio Geronimo.
The proposed law was principally authored by Antipolo 2nd District Rep. Romeo Acop, a former PNP brigadier general.
In justifying the name change, the politiko said the “manner we honor our heroes reflect our sense of nationalism and love of country, Hence, renaming the PNP Camp in Taytay, Rizal after the late General Licerio I. Geronimo will serve as lasting testament to his patriotism and sacrifice for our country.”
Acop added that Geromino served under the Great Plebian and Katipunan founder, Andres Bonifacio, and saw action in the Battle of San Juan Del Monte against the Spaniards and successfully defended Mount Puray in Rodriquez, Riuzal in 1897.
Also on December 19, 1899, Geronimo led Filipino forces in San Mateo, Rizal against advancing American forces under Gen. Henry Lawton, killing the latter in the process and winning the said battle.
