Why not? Sato bats for bigger global biodiversity conservation budget through ‘bayanihan’
Occidental Mindoro Representative Josephine Ramirez-Sato pushed for a bigger budget for biodiversity conservation and protection during the 3rd United Nations Environmental Programme (UNDP) Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN) workshop in Almaty, Kazakhstan, Wednesday, April 26.
The Mindoro politiko said there is room for a “whole of government” approach in mobilizing additional financing for biodiversity conservation.
Sato urged UN member-countries to adopt the “bayanihan” spirit to close the financing gap.
“Recognizing the urgent requirements to address the continued biodiversity loss in the Philippines and particularly recognizing the massive requirement to secure resources to finance biodiversity plans, programs and projects – a concept comes to my mind – Bayanihan,” Sato said.
Bayanihan is an old Filipino custom that basically entails unity toward a common goal, no matter how small that goal is.
