Deserve nila! Mayor Kit Nieto shows how inmates should be treated
In a world full of violence, greed, and crimes, Cainta Mayor Kit Nieto publicly shows what separates him from others: He is a man with a big, compassionate heart.
On his Facebook post, the Politiko narrated how hard it was for him to face the prisoners of his municipality’s detention cell.
“The first time they were presented to my office, the smell was disturbing.. i tried to figure what was wrong..they tell me some of the inmates no longer receive visitors who would bring them freshly washed clothes… the space was cramped and dense.. we now are expanding the cells by adding another floor… we are putting new shower areas for hygiene purposes…”
It was not his job–to look after the welfare of these detainees on this level, but, he showed initiative and set an example: A good leader does not only do what is asked of him, or what is expected of him. A good and true leader does what he should.
“.i employed three personnel to wash the clothes of those who have been abandoned and today, i have installed three air conditioning units to provide relief to the inmates of the Cainta police detention cell.. judgment call”
According to him. it was his judgment call. And at the end of the day, they are still human beings worthy and deserving of care and compassion.
“we only deprived them of their physical liberties, not of their basic right to live in humane conditions..this is Cainta..”
