Paldo! Mayor Barzaga pours on allowances for student-athletes
Dasmariñas City Mayor Pidi Barzaga has always been proud of his student-athletes. As such he never pinches pennies when it comes to giving them financial support.
These seven track and filed athletes from Grade 8 to 11 and their two coaches are no exception. They are currently participating in the 9th ASEAN School Games in Singapore which runs from July 13 to July 21.
Barzaga, on a Facebook post, said the local athletes were selected to join the Philippine team due to their exemplary athletic performance and by bagging gold medals in the Palarong Pambansa.
The post bared that the City Government gave its nine-man team P15,000 each as allowance. Aside from that, Barzaga and his wife, Cavite Rep. Jenny Barzaga also gave them an additional P7,200 each for their personal expenses.
Flying the flag for the country are Grade 11 students Edwin Giron Jr., Tyrone Flores, Elvievane Gobotia; Jessel Lumapas, Eliza Cuyom of Grade 10; Veruel Verdadero of Grade 9; and Aaliyah Ingram of Grade 8.
The two coaches are Fernando Dagasdas of Dr. Jose P. Rizal Elementary School and Anthony Valdez of Paliparan National High School.
Also joining the event are student-athletes from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore. #
