Cavite province holds summit aiming to eradicate rabies by 2020
The provincial government of Cavite spearheaded the Cavite Rabies Summit pursuant to World Rabies Prevention Day with the tem of” “Rabies: Zero by 2020.”
The summit was held in Bayleaf Hotel, City of Gen. Trias in partnership with Provincial Veterinary Office and the Department of Health Region IV-A.
The event was also done in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Department of Education, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Philippine National Police and the Global Alliance for Rabies Control.
Dr. Gilbert Ilog, Provincial Health Officer I, in his welcome remarks challenged everyone present to attain the goal of rabies prevention and control program.
The Anti-rabies Act of 2007 (RA 9482), was discussed by Dr. Emelinda Lopez of National Rabies Coordinator of the Bureau of Animal Industry.
She enumerated the various roles of every stakeholder present in sustaining this health initiative and the continuous implementation of activities and strategies to respond to the problem of rabies infection.
Meanwhile, DILG-Cavite Provincial Director Allan V. Benitez led the soft launching of Awards for Best Performing LGUs which aims to recognize rabies-free areas maintaining dog vaccination for 3 consecutive years.
The recognition is geared towards promoting the elimination of human rabies and the declaration of rabies-free Philippines by 2020.
