Sali na sa saya! General Trias residents get ready for triple celebrations in December

Nov 27, 2017 @ 21:19

This city is slated to observe triple celebrations for its 2nd Cityhood, 269th Founding Anniversary, and 5th Valenciana Festival from Dec. 12 to 13 this year.

General Trias City Mayor Antonio ‘Oni’ A. Ferrer has directed constituents and the public to participate in the triple treats which adopt the theme “Gentriseño: Magkaagapay sa Pag-Usad at Pag-Unlad” or united constituents toward progress and development.

City Tourism Officer Michelle Pozas said the festivities will kick off with a thanksgiving mass at 8 a.m. on Dec. 12, followed by a grand street dancing competition, featuring high school to senior high school students of eight competing school clusters.

Pozas added that through sponsorships by the city’s corporate partners, a parade of floats will feature designs inspired by Gentri’s “noon, ngayon at bukas” (the city then, now and in the future).

According to Pozas, the December 13 events will highlight the city’s founding anniversary and Valenciana Festival, which showcase the popular dish of sticky, glutinous rice cooked with a mixed chicken, pork, seafood similar to the Hispanic paella and bringhe.

The “valenciana” cook fest offers cooking style of the city’s 33 villages and tasting by food connoisseurs and invited chefs.

The celebration will also pay homage through a wreath laying rite at the monument of General Mariano Trias.

The event also stages its “parol” (Christmas lantern) making contest at 4 p.m. before the official lighting of the city’s Christmas tree.

The city was founded on Dec. 13, 1748 and was named then after the patron Saint Francis of Assisi until it was renamed to General Trias in 1868 until 1914 in honor of the revolutionary general.

Cavite representative Emilio P. Virata from 1919 to 1921 authored the act naming the town General Trias since then until it achieved its cityhood last year by virtue of Republic Act 10675.

The new component city is home to Gateway Business Park, Cavite’s premiere industrial park. (PNA)
