Ralph Recto: Gov’t must protect farmers from negative effects of ‘liberalized’ agricultural policies
Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto said the government must make sure Filipino farmers are protected from the negative effects of the “liberalized” agricultural policies.
The Batangas politiko said that “while the global trend is to liberalize policies in agriculture, we should also make sure to mitigate its effects and protect the interest of the Filipino farmers.”
Recto recently talked to different government agencies regarding the issue of rice supply in the country.
He said their inputs will enhance Senate Bill No. 1998 which seeks to replace Quantitative Import Restrictions on Rice with Tariffs.
“It is always good policy to pick the minds of these hardworking government officials and their staff especially when the issue concerns our farmers, a dwindling and vulnerable sector of our society,” Recto said.
