Isa lang ang may motibo! Slain Cavite vice mayor’s wife insists mayor masterminded killing
Trece Martires City mayoral bet Gemma Lubigan said that the De Sagun clan would benefit from the death of her husband, Vice Mayor Alex Lubigan.
“The death of Vice Mayor Lubigan eliminated the top seeded Mayoralty candidate,” read her reply-affidavit which she filed Monday (Nov. 5) before the Department of Justice (DOJ) panel of prosecutors conducting the preliminary investigation of her complaint.
The reply-affidavit is in response to the counter-affidavit of Trece Martires Mayor Melandres De Sagun who denied being involved in the murder and instead blamed her in her husband’s death.
“The rise of popularity and public clamor for the late Vice Mayor served as a threat to the power held so long by the De Sagun clan,” she pointed out.
“Although Respondent Mayor would not run for office considering it is his last term, his father Jun de Sagun would take his place as a candidate for the next election,” she added.
Under the complaint, the respondents are accused of two counts of murder and one count of frustrated murder over the death of Lubigan and his driver Romulo Guillemer as well as the wounding of his security aide Romeo Edrinal.
The other respondents are identified as Maragondon Municipal Councilor Lawrence “Umbe” Arca, Luis Abad Jr., Ariel Paiton, and Rhonel Bersamina.
In her reply-affidavit, Gemma said there is enough evidence to have the respondents indicted.
“Mr. Romeo Edrinal personally was the gun man and positively identified him as Ariel Paiton,” she said.
“Alex Paiton, the brother and blood relative of gunman Ariel Paiton, has clearly described how he spoke to Ariel who related to him Mayor Melandres De Sagun’s involvement as mastermind and Councilor Lawrence ‘Umbe’ Arca’s assistance in concealing the crime by disposing the vehicle used in the criminal design of killing the Vice Mayor and his company,” she stated.
